,,interesting subject issue raised by you about "jihadist" vs "terrorist" from the perception of western and muslim eyes. As a good muslim, all of us are direct/in-directly involved in our own hijad, in your case against corruption from the way I look at it. From me, I guess about inspirations to all malaysian but lets look a bit further on terrorism ...indeed, FORTUNATELY as for ideological war, they have very much diminished in recent years. What changed is the new term called "TERRORISM" has taken centre stage and a new role in war.
Terrorism is indeed the cancer of our modern world using primitive methods to instill fear to everyone. No state is immune to it.

Maybe, If i can further add the fourth category is terrorism directed/supported by Governments in the latest term it justifies itself as WAR AGAINST TERRORISM by invading other nation or state !. Geeee.
AND finally but not the end as yet, a new treat from individual lunatics or self proclaimed revolutionist and they are by far worse than all the other types of terrorists as mentioned above. A growing numbers, if you care to read some of their crazy/lunatic comments in the internet nowadays.

In conclusion, we are all a Jihadist but not a Terrorist in our struggle for a better nation. ...BUT indeed, mr. BUSH was/is the biggest TERRORIST in the century from my eyes.

The malaysian military is still effectively equipped kind of to fight a war against a conventional adversary - an event which is wholly unlikely to happen. Tomorrow’s threat will not come from strong nations as in the past, but internally from weak or failed government. Just watch the events surrounding us, as in Thailand and Philippines plus Burma.
,,,What is the use of heavy Challenger tanks, even if the Army wants them, against an enemy who lives and fights amongst a rural populace and whose "hearts and minds" we have to win?
,,,What use is the multi-billion ringgit submarine fleet against such an enemy which attacks with hijack civilian airliners as demonstrated at the world trade centre ?

...Guess it was some hours before dawn I woke up to find myself already in motion, pushing back the blanket from a semi sitting position, and then rising to my feet. Not too clear to myself when exactly i became conscious, nor does it seem relevant.
I stand across the bed naked - i sleep naked as always for the pleasurable sensation. The wrist watch shows three fifty and i have no idea what am doing out of bed; i don't need to relieve myself, nor was i disturbed by a dream or anything that happened on the day before, or any event of the world. It's as if, standing there naked in the darkness, i materialised out of nothing, fully developed or formed, unencumbered.
...I don't feel tired, despite the sweaty labours performed on the island, nor my conscience troubled by any recent case or event. In fact, am bloody alert and empty-headed plus inexplicably elated. With nothing in mind, no motivation at all, i move towards the lounge area and experience such ease and lightness that i thought i was dreaming or sleepwalking across. Fortunately, dreams don't interest me; that this should be real is a richer posibility and am entirely myself, am certain of it, and i know that sleep was behind me; to know the diffirence between it and waking, to know the boundaries, is the essence of sanity.
...the lounge area is large and uncluttered, as i walked across it with almost comic facility, the propect of the experience ending kind of saddens me briefly, then that thought was gone. I have actually stepped down the longhouse stairways to the beach front where i would normally be most of the time, feeling my skin tightens as the cold early morning air pours in around me, now with only a sarung which i must have automatically caught hold before leaving the bed room.
...i looked above me but don't immediately understand what am seeing, though i think i do. In the first moment, in my eagerness and curiosity, i assumes proportions on a planetary scale; it's a meteor burning out in the sky above, traversing left to right, low on the eastern horizon, though well clear of the island hilly slope.
...But surely meteors have a darting, needle like quality. Expecting to see them in a flash before their heat consumes them. But this was moving slowly, majestically even kind of. In that very instant, i revised my perpective outward to the scale of the solar system; this object is not thousands but millions of miles distance, far out in space swinging in timeless orbit around and across the universe. Eerrmmmm !!!! it's a comet, tinged with yellow, with its familiar bright core trailing its fiery envelope.
...am indeed thrilled by the sight before the comet disappeared across the morning sky but its too extraordinary not to share !.
...i walked along the beach front to the jetty and back with Jane ensuring the craps are not blocking my way, before the first sunlight hits the eastern horizon on Kapas Island with me alone on the island but reborn to a new day.

,,,,its almost similar being a Malay too, we Malays must change to accept the reality of life and living plus accept responsibility ofup-keeping oneself, stop blaming 'others' in the country and acceptthe fact that we are as human as the rest with nil special RIGHTS to earn an honest living without the subsidy mentality plus rid of the'corruption culture' ingrained in some or most of us !. Our mindset is out of fashion too and the fast changing world awaits for no one.

,,,in fact, i find it bloody hard to trust any malaysian politicians nowadays except the very few !. Which still i find hard to identify right now unfortunately. Most are like snakes, they shed their skin regularly. ,,,time is passing and the world changing yet our bloody politicians can't wake-up to its reality !. Our country has gone obsolute, good for the scrap yard with these kind of poor leadership. We have as a nation fallen behind, because others are moving forward fast. The business of life and living is to go forward. Why the stagnation ? It takes courage to change too. BUT i don't see any of it from our present so called political leaders. Guess many fear for change, they are too complacent to move and they dislike uncertainty.

,,,may i just write this down in black and white hehehe !..that opportunities are everywhere, in the air, under the sea, on the land plus beneath the earth too ! (i was with the Oil&Gas industry for the past 23 years yoo).

,,,Just cruise along any cities, there are thousands upon thousands of businesses running, to be created and launched...buildings awaiting to be repainted. Drive along the country side, there remiles upon miles of land for planting, growing and be harvested

...in pasar malam, I walked into people buying just about anything and learned that people had been trapping grasshoppers, breeding earth worms, which were exported or fed to pets or utilized for fishing etc, the the thousands !..others make cakes, plastic flowers, grow/sell bonsais i.e. tiny plants you can pick along rocky places, sell kebabs or trade in antiques i.e. things which you and me just throw out as rubbish !.

,,,I walk into the jungle and notice heaps of delicious 'wood-ear' fungi, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, nuts, fruits, ferns etc being harvested free from the wild by the orang asli to sell to some middle man, who then makes millions of money a year. In the sea, I see gamat, fishes and jelly-fish plus a few sharks too. I notice a fellow collecting jelly fish, apparently he export it across to japan, worth thousands of ringgit a week !.

,,,Indeed over the years, i have heard of numerous created or seized opportunities, which led to much wealth. Infact, there are just too many example for me to list it down here. The keling bottle man, started buying scrap metal for a song long time ago and accumulated riches. I met an aged fellow back in India a few years back, he is a bloody rich retired keling botoi gentleman nowadays !. There are unlimited opportunities in every industry...hihihi remember where there is an open-mind, there will always be a frontier and OPPORTUNITIES are everywhere. Sometimes, a casual remark from someone can spark an INSPIRATION or the onset of a windfall !!. Be vigilant and keep a constant watch. ..."celek mata"-lah..open your eyes to notice the endless marvels and possibilities, even in our daily lives. Their lives and their fortunes were in the hands of changeable circumstances, as these circumstances were created by those in authority !.,,,Circumstantial ethics also meant that anything you could get by with was all right and did not leave a sense of guilt.,,,Under this racist UMNOputra system, the overruling obligation was the APPEARANCE of doing the "RIGHT" thing; not actually doing it. Form took precedence over content and what you saw or heard was often a facade instead of reality.,,,Morality in the UMNOputra context became something like a show. Unfortunately bitter animosities between countries still persist and blindly or cunningly or silently frantically or even unknowly preparing for new war !!.

Great many are just holding on or just maintaining a fragile peace that could/would shatter at any moment in time. Timing is the only factor holding things together or perhaps apart !.

Resulting in the deaths of between 20 to 40 million people according to UN Count alone, guess in reality the numbers can be anywhere higher ?. The UN again estimated that about 20 millions of internal refugees in foreign lands and about 20 millions of internal refugees - that is people having to fled their homes to escape danger or even death and in some cases extreme poverty just for basic survival needs.
,,,YET, again most UNFORTUNATELY from data gathered, most of the conflicts in the world today are between PEOPLE and RACES as compared between nations and even fewer are ideological. The usual apologia for terrorism is that "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter", which is perfectly true and perfectly irrelevant ; I would say, "MURDER is not justified by sticking a different label on it yaa !!"

A growing numbers, if you care to read some of their crazy/lunatic comments in the internet nowadays. The authorities should rightfully vet them and sent them for proper medical treatment for their own good as well for sane reading peace for the rest of us. !!.
,,,O.K.-lah, lets just get back into our country's brief and short history within the last century only. The last traces of the communist insurgency warfare sputtered along the jungles at the Thai/Malaysian border area or frontier and the final communist party signing of a treaty just in 1989 to end their bloody arm struggle with the Malaysian government. The "Confrontation" with Indonesia that subsided, very much ended before it really started into a full blown war, however both countries are now allied in ASEAN. There were serious Racial riots in Kuala Lumpur in particular in May 1969, in which unfortunately hundreds of innocent people from all sides of society were killed or injured, but then the 3 main so called malaysian communities have worked pretty hard to reduce social inequities plus racial tensions which were fueled by opportunists, taken advantage of by the communist party of Malaya, gangsters/thugs and indeed by racist politicians of the worst order. Also, not to forget that during the Malayan emergency period that the Dayaks Trackers from Sarawak/Borneo then helped to battle the communist insurgency with the British forces in peninsula Malaya. (Thanks brothers !.)
,,,FORTUNATELY we all Malaysian have been notably more successful than for example the people of Sri Lanker with their on-going war with the Tamil Tigers. At this moment in time, Malaysia is still in a bastion of stability and that ethnic harmony in a dangerous world....but will it last forever ?. Malaysia has a special role in an account of comtemporary conflicts. The only country in the world to withstand or defeat an communist insurgency. Indeed the Malaysian experience is truely unique. The essential or main difference with the Malaysian experience was that the majority of the Chinese did not actively support the communist terrorists and were just trying their level best to survive in their new adopted land and were proactively separated from them terrorists in their "New Villages", while the majority of the population Malays, actively opposed the communists as anti-Islamic. Generally the Malays were the bulk of the military personnel plus in the Police or as government servants, they formed the "Home Guards" and defended their villages/kampungs and with help from the Dayak Trackers plus the British Forces drove the communists by the time of Independence, the communist terrorists were driven across the border into Southern Thailand as their safe heaven. The majority of the communist terrorists were generally Chinese but there were also Malay too in their party's armed struggle which unfortunately until today our local Malaysian are not really fully aware of or just in the state of denial. To be fair and honest, the Malaysian government has always treated the various separatists movement in Southern Thailand and closer to Sabah, the Phillipine separatist, more so bandit elements very cautiously and kept an arm length away from direct involvement, in fact playing a Moderator role as and when requested to do so. Rumours have it that certain politicians then, were directly involved but apparently it was on a private agenda that the Malaysian government would like not to get involved with or perhaps kept an blind eye on ?. Politics being politics, I have much reasons not to trust any of them as such would remain apolitical.
,,,As in many anti-terrorist campaigns, the Malaysian Armed Forces and Police are faced with a real dilemma, in-order to combat terrorism effectively and "restore law and order", they have to resort to measures in winning "Hearts and Minds" of the local people plus the chinese workers of the plantations and tin mines into "new villages". All the squatters along the jungle fringes plus plantations/mines provided the "SEA" in which the CTs "FISH" would/could swim un-noticed and by relocating them into new villages, securely under government control would eventually deplete the waters for the fishes. Indeed, technically very sound manner or smart strategy to starve off the enemy and keep their supply chain away since in the CTs warfare, its the hidden enemy which makes it very difficult to war on. The Malayan Emergency began in 1948, when the communist terrorists first victims were the European plantation managers and which later spread to government posts, police and military patrols in the rubber plantations and mining areas. In actual fact, it was really the "Hearts and Minds" that won the fight against the communist terrorists. It was never the the bullets or weapons that killed the spirit of the enemy, they were indeed a dedicated bunch of characters whom believed in their struggle and were also willing to sacrifice their freedom and life in the jungle where food and shelter plus medical facilities are on bare survival state at most. Unfortunately there were some that were conned into their fruitless struggle started off with the chinese fighting against the Japanese due to the continuation of animosities stirred up by the Japanese in main land China and after which after the Second World War, the Communist Party was banned by the British and Malayan Government as a political party. Before which, the British were actually arming/training these jungle fighters against the Japanese forces as their common enemy !.
,,,Very similar to terrorism but not so correct is the act of PIRACY !. Again its showing its ugly head in the Gulf of Aden plus not so frequently nowadays in the Straits of Malacca and South China Seas after the Tsunami in 2004 since the pirates lost most of their boats to mother nature herself !.

,,,in fact, i lost more than 20 pilots friends from the Airforce alone plus many many more from the Army and Police Field Force.,,,logged in my flying log book are 387 mercy flights alone if am not wrong if i can still remember correctly the numbers. The numbers of medevac/bodyvac/casevac are indeed frustrating to count or sad to recall cos. many were friends/buddies that i had made prior to their misadvanture while fighting against the god damn CTs, whereby nowadays there are people willing to bring back their killer leader Chin Peng back as an bloody hero !!

,,, buddies !!... yoo again,,,sharing another 'untold experience' of an young Alouette pilot from 3 Sqn. Butterworth - back in 1974!...Date/time to be reconfirmed, till I find my log book again-lah....Was on special detachment with the Special Branch Chief himself at Fort Gemala for 2 x weeks in the jungle base as stand-by Alouette recce chopper but nothing happened for the first week and was invited for some fishing trip by the orang asli/police field force officer. So off I went, stripped down just in my shorts plus T shirt on their wooden sampan for fish bombing !.
,,,wow !!.. the ikan kelah was struggling after the 1st underwater blow-up and I jumped into the river to bring the fishes back but the strong current swept me across the other end ! Upon taking a BIG fish in hand, I stopped at the river edge for some rest and noticed some movements in the jungle!. Holy SHIT !!..CTs were watching us and I immediately swam across to the orang asli guide plus we all made our way back to base camp safely!!. The special Ops. was immediately launched and within the next couple of weeks, the security forces managed to kill/capture a few of the 40 odd CTs at that area.
,,,Guess what ??. One of the captured CTs a Malay guy (he looks like Mej Kalid Ali no kidding !.... hahaha !) from Kelantan, told me that he had his gun sight at me while I was on the sampan but thought that I was an orang asli and if only he knew that was the chopper pilot (meself) he would had pulled the trigger !. We had a great laugh and apparently he is now serving in the SB too, probably retired by now !!.
,,,So its not too bad to be with curly hairs and dark skin too hehehe..saved my day that day too.Very very stupid of me going out fishing but that was the normal thing to do by the SB personnel plus orang asli guides at all the jungle forts that we used to fly in/out then. Kept this experience or rather incident a personal secret from the Sqn/Flt. Commander, too scared that they might stop me from flying alone into the jungle again in support of Ops. Bamboo etc hahaha....boy OOO boy !! .....that was one crazy experience kept in my heart for the last 35 odd years ...Geee !!....now its no more my secret anymore....hehehe !!....am glad its out now...yooo !

I remember first meeting him when I attended the Mines Warfare Course in PULADA, his men plus himself taught us how to disarmed booby traps (before joining RMAF he was with the Army Engineering Core). I was even invited for lunch at his home and got to know his beautiful family too !.(perhaps convinced him there to join us in the RMAF ! hehe but seriously, he was already very interested in flying then)
,,,Later, he surprised me when he joined us as an aircrew and flew bravely together into the heat of many battles against the CTs without fear or regrets. He as always will be there come rain or shine, with that smile in his face ever ready to serve or rather fly.

,,,YES, indeed the late Capt. Choo YB relief aircrew from 7 Sqn. Kuching before being killed at Ops. Gubir, he was involved with another Thai/M'sia border Ops. with me from 10 Sqn. whereby he volunteered to be the "Dummy" chopper for the CTs to take pot shots at so that we can determine where from the damn CTs were shooting our chopper from !!. (actually he over-ruled me, for being more senior to take that particular role !!) Now, can you ever beat that ?. Talking about sacrifice and bravery and total dedication in defending this beloved country ??..this guy sandbagged his chopper and hovered just to be shot at !! ....and radio across for y chopper to abseil/winch down the troops accordingly to attack the CTs.
,,,with the Nuri carrying protective sandbags for the 12 x troops on board, my chopper was grossly over weight to hover out of ground effect as such we had to rest her belly on the tree branches, while the troops were abseiled/winched down or else we can't take-off safely or just have to jettison the sand bags in a hurry !.
,,,this technique of flight support were never written anywhere in our SOP as such we kept it to ourselves (o.k. am only now disclosing it ! hehe)but the troops were happy to have these kind of crazy Nuri aircrews that gave them the maximum support beyond the call of duty !.
,,,Indeed, it was Capt. Choo's idea to place his chopper as the target so that we could safely deploy our troops and surround the enemy. That special Ops. was indeed a big success and we brought back a couple of dead CTs as trophy.
,,,Unfortunately a few months later his chopper was shot down at Ops. Gubir and were killed together with everyone onboard.
,,,In fact, we were together that morning at RMAF Butterworth, all three of us - meself, Capt Choo and Lt (U) Chung were discussing "When, Where and How" to crash land the chopper in case of being shot down while we were having our morning shower !!. Maybe I will write more about the Ops. Gubir flight support whereby 21 of our choppers were shot at and Capt. Murad's 139 x bullets holed chopper that Capt Choo was supposed to help ferry back was unfortunately in vain on 27th April'76.
,,,Darm the CTs !!..you bloody guys killed my dear flying buddies..and if any body were to bring Chin Peng back, am still awaiting to settle the score !.. that is/was my last promise to late Capt. ,,,,just to tell you more about the Nuri and some of her hidden hazards, mine caught fire while night flying overhead PK (Pekan) with co-pilot Mat Sulong, firstly, we lost No.2 Gene as such were down to essential buss, remember it was pitch dark nite, yoo and then the Primary Hyd. was also lost !
,,,things were getting bad to worse and the smell of burning oil plus smoke covered the cabin/cock-pit too ! From "Pan to Mayday call" were made BUT we could not make an immediate emergency landing since we also lost the No 1 Generator soon after !. Geee...!!
,,,nil ac electricity except for dc emergency buss bar and no landing lights to aid for an landing away from the Kuantan airfield, which we were aiming for and snaking in !! ...using the street lights plus moving cars and finally the airfield lightings as ref. ,,,,,,(it was the craziest flight of my entire life..Yeop Oii !!,,,,,but I flew the darm ass burning chopper for God's sake,,,"just fly her" I kept telling meself all along the ride of Hell !!)
,,,Crew chief could not contain the fire at the rear of the MGB cos. of the bottom cover...so I ordered him to axe it away, which he managed to with almost bare hands plus me having to fly without AFCS and only stand-by horizon with smoky cock-pit blinding eyes & lungs !

,,,To make it even worse,.......the MGB was also making funny rattling noise since we were fast losing gearbox oil too. (In fact, later we found out that the gearbox would had kaput if flown more than 3 - 5 minutes after our emergency landing at the airfield !)...phew OomakDatok !!.
,,,It does NOT ends there mate !!..upon landing as instructed the co-pilot jumped out of the Nuri side window to fight the fire at the rear from outside the chopper and I had to perform an emergency shut-down alone. The fire fighters arrived alongside and they sprayed foams at the rear, inside the cabin plus when they saw smoke from the engine exhausts due to the stray foams,,,,,,,,,,guess what ??,,,,,,,both the engines were foamed up !! So now we also lost two bloody good engines too .......while safely on the ground Geeee !!
,,,Well the co-pilot is still in the RMAF, you can ask him more about the incident-lah. Had a hard time coaching a turtleman with the likes of him too hehehe !!....but guess he made it, now a 'one or two star' Dato General Mat Sulong !! ......Yoooo.....good for you buddy...well done !.

,,,the leaking MGB gearbox oil gave fuel for the fire and lucky me, the aluminium did not burnt out cos. the metal bearings were red hot.
,,,the foaming of the cabin area caused further damage to the AFCS controllers positioned at the bottom of the broom closet. This was again unfortunately only discovered many months later during its 1st test flight !. ( the flight controls went hay wired, moving on its own due to electrical shortings !!)
,,,so in future, don't take it too easy even for a single gene. failure yaa !!... if its the bearings not electrical causing its failure, don't continue flying as per checklist but land asap and check-out the primary cause of failure. (Electrical fire Vs Oil base fire smells different too.)

There is a Hindu temple close to our home too and I was allowed to participate in many of their religious activities with my hindu friends. My mother's side of the family has Thai blood and some of her relatives are still Buddhist and I learn more about Buddhism too later in life for better appreciation of the good teachings of Lord Buddha too. In fact, I brought my wife to Bangkok way back in 1983 to study more about the teachings too. She studied in the Convent School in Alor Star, Kedah, as such is very open minded on religious matter, she is a very devoted Muslim both in ritual & practice as compared to myself-lah !.
,,,For all the troubles in the world, its the individual not the religion that causes trouble and hardship to fellow human beings. I silently hope and pray for all to open their hearts to GOD and to practise kindness to fellow beings/animals/plants and be greatful at all times while/for being born to taste the fresh air and sunshine as one live b4 one pass away finally.

,,,Life and living is/are very precious and time limited. Lets make the best of our day and have peace of mind and best of health always.
,,,One of my best of friends is a Jew and we don't have any issues regarding religion ?!.

What Day is today ?,,,,,,,,,Ouiiiiiiiiiii,,,,,,,,,,!!.

Why is the sunset so beautiful and never the same every other day ?.
Indeed, while am still able to appreciate it, with the back ground sounds of the Murai Bukit plus the catty calling from Mr. Kingfisher, telling the world that he is back from the days roaming with fishes fresh caught from the sea along Port side of Kapas Island.,,,,that’s the KPIs that am still sane and happy/healthy too....lah. Hehehe.

Life had been a long hard journey from the days when I swim/swam/almost drown!!,,, at the Sungai Pari River behind Birch Gardens, Connally Road, Ipoh. The standard Government House/Quarter my daddy lodged all his 9 children and that many of us kids, fast up-growing and proactive coaching from Tuan Haji Abbas Mohd. Ariff plus,,,, busy Mama Puan Hajah Sophie Asha’arie, homemaker, cook, dresser and teaching all of us too. She was a strict lady, cum teacher plus but really a friendly mama.,,,,,,,, “Mama, I love you and missed you tons !!”
The house was full of loud laughters, with all of us fooling/playing/teaching each others on knowledge read/gained from books our daddy provided us with. The house was also full with books from all over the world and on all subjects!!!.
Indeed, daddy gave all the knowledge plus encouragement and life leadership skills from observing/questioning him forever and ever with ??????? WHY,,,why ? ,,,,,plus doing what was supposed to be done and doing right first time at all times. Its your way daddy, get it right 1st time !!,,,,i will always do so.

YES,,,,daddy you are the BEST !. And now while you rest in bed day in day out,,,,am kind of stuck on the island while worrying/thinking/writing about you. Daddy I miss you as always yaaaaaa !!. But don't worry, you have trained me well.
Daddy thanks so much and I will make my way to see you soonest !. We can talk about the many journey/travel we had together,,,,and about any subject that cross your mind.

Nuclear Proliferation

Threat of nuclear annihilation.

One thing that I can safely and confidently predict in 2009 is that nuclear weapons will not be abolished as yet!. Would it be just wonderful in theory to remove the threat of nuclear annihilation once and for all in this modern era?.

While there this growing talk about out-right abolition is the world’s failure to achieve the much more modest objective of preventing new countries from joining the nuclear club.

The haves (USA, Russia, Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan) must learn that unless they themselves talk about their own eventual disarmament, how can the have-nots will agree in preventing further proliferation in the nuclear race ?.

The basic grievance of the have-nots is that the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty does not require the haves to give up their nuclear powers and existing arsenals!.
Indeed, if the haves show no sign of living up to this side of the bargain, the haves-nots’ resentment will only grow bigger.
Countries like Iran and North Korea will become less and less willing to agree to the sharper inspections that will be needed as nuclear know-how and materials spread more widely across the world at large.

In fact, if the haves decide to abolish their nuclear weapons, the practical difficulties of doing so would be really immense.

Is abolition just a pipe dream ?.

Unfortunately, I see lots of hypocrisy, the haves will pretend to believe in abolition and the have-nots may pretend to believes them. ,,,,,,,hahaha what a big laugh yaaaaa.

Alternative Energy in Malaysia

Dear Tun,

Slowly but surely, alternative energy technologies are starting to become mainstream.

Even on Kapas Island we are using Solar Energy for our electricity-lah nowadays but unfortunately its rate at rm1.60 per unit is really too bloody expensive for us poor islanders to shoulder !. Can you help us here ? ,,,,,hahaha.

Wind power is also growing and about 1% of the World's energy is already generated by the wind too.
Apparently, it is expected to rise to 10% by 2020. Your Vision 2020 does not cater for this unfortunately !!! yaaaaaa.
Another good sign is the use of electric car and more and more models are becoming available and perhaps you can advise Proton to seriously look into this too ?.

The idea is to end dependency on import oil or trying to get it from nuclear ways plus to achieve zero-carbon sources.
In Malaysia there is plenty of potential for solar power, which will be environmental friendly plus benefiting too.
With our abundant sunshine, solar power should grow in importance. If NOT why NOT ?.

Perhaps with a special plant that works by employing heat from the sun to make steam and thus drive a generator, rather than using expensive solar cells to produce electricity directly ?.
In fact, solar cells are not going away, they are being deployed faster than wind turbines and apparently the amount of electricity they generate is growing by the day.

Biofuels, the other green alternatives to petrol and diesel, are also made ultimately from sunlight, via the plant-building process of photosynthesis !.

No doubt, we will see some interesting changes in the World of Energy-lah.

In this timeless plus borderless human activity of socialising via the net, it has begin to cause a lot of grief to some ,,,,,,,,,unfortunately !!!!!!!.

The fashionable term for it is "sharing". In the process and new context, one starts to volunteering personal information that previously used to be considered off-limts/private to all but the most intimate friends/relatives but that is now taking on a life of its own yaaaa !!!!!.

People have always tried to manage their reputation and indeed today's IT tool plus network give them powerful tools to do just that.

So most people participate and share enthusiastically as a rational action,,,,,but the problem is that they quickly lose that control. Some of the information will be eventually be used for something else from its original intent and purpose.

Trust me, if you are the "Paranoia Type" about privacy don't be a blogger in this internet era !

Who and how to hold anyone accountable for any breaches of privacy ?.

The enemy within and the most ignored of the bigger danger is ourselves !.

Does that mean that it is prudent to opt out of Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Flickr, You Tube and the likes ?. Probably not bcas participation has indeed become almost automatic and its the "in" thing,,,,,,,,,hahaha.

The only remaining choice is whether or not to inject our own perspective, within our blog, into this never ending stream of narratives, to preserve whatever control remains in presenting our own image.

The wise will still share things about himself/herself but one must also become more hyper-sensitive about sharing collateral information about others, in the hope that reciprocity and a new etiquette will eventually limit everybody's vulnerability, including one's own.

The main problem is not criticism, but understanding how to deal with it and build on it. Malaysians often can't deal with criticism because those who criticise only know how to criticise, and the criticised don't know how to respond. Because we are so averse to dissent and disagreement, we do not know how to handle it gracefully, and we rarely see the right response as fixing the problem which led to the issue in the first place.

There is a lot of criticism out there that is simply not right — criticism from people who are just out there to be jerks and assholes, rather than actually contribute. But that does not invalidate criticism from people who do want problems solved. The trouble with our society is that we often appear not to realise this.

The appropriate response to criticism is to see if the problem is real, and try to solve it. If we can do something about it — whether that be writing to the Education Ministry or organising a dialogue with a local councillor — great. If we can't, too bad.

Let's not take criticism personally; let's not take it as an insult, even when it is.

Ignore the useless criticism, and be glad for the useful brickbats you do get. Our country will be much better off for it.

Let’s take criticism as something constructive rather than destructive,,,,,,, yaaaaaa ?.

Fortunately, money is not important to me as long as we have enough to keep our ship afloat.

In actual truth, I have not made any profit in terms of $ and cents but have to constantly dig into my savings all these years to support my lifestyle/others there,,, hehehe.

Dear Tun,

You are right but guess there are other options to consider too.

In any investment there are risks involved but one must be smart about it.

The stock market is indeed a gamble most time, you win some you lose some.

The trick is to spread the risk about in a few options.

As an investor, we have 4 simple basic options ; Equities (shares), property, collectables or indeed cash-based investments.

However the value of cash base investments can be effected by inflation and falling interest rates, so you/me/we should seriously consider spreading the risk by investing some of the money in shares/property and to a much lesser degree/extent, in collectables.

The major benefit with these types of investments is the potential to gain capital growth that cash-based investments cannot provide-lah.

Cash-based investments does indeed has its advantage too i.e. it specify in advance the rate of interest. We can therefore, culculate the amount that is normally fixed throughout the period of the loan and is guaranteed, even if interest rates fall.

Furthermore, the capital will be protected against any sudden downward movements in the money markets, which could affect the value of other types of investments, such as shares and property.

The feeling of certainty can indeed be very reassuring to some of us.

Investors who buys assets base such as shares or property can also increase their wealth in one of the two ways - either from income from dividents or rent, or as a direct result of capital growth.

By contrast, cash cannot, by itself increase in value at most time, we have frequently seen its purchasing power be eaten away by inflation !.

Somehow, I still feel its kind of safe for investing within the local market but our local Politicians should stop being silly because it will effect the investment atmosphere in Malaysia.

We really need some rest with politiking and get into the real business of economic stability plus growth asap !.

Lets all, THINK Malaysian for our beautiful Malaysia !!!!!!,,,,,and the future for all of our children....YES please aaaik ?. ,,,,,,,,,,Darm it for God's sake !

Indeed, I can't understand why when found guilty of money politics, this guy, KJ was still allowed to be voted in as Ketua Pemuda UMNO ?.

And for all those that voted for him, you guys are as guilty too plus what were you guys thinking !.

This is really wrong and hopefully he would be brought to court for justice to be done.

Am ashamed, bloody shameful for we Malays plus all other Malaysian to accept this nonsense !

Why is he, KJ above the law ?. What so damn special about him ?.

If this is how UMNO is going to run or manage the country, am sad to say, all of us Malaysian will face a black future !.

Just thinking out loud again about our country, her problems and future,,,,, plus what I would do if am the PM. Wishful thinking some might say but why not, after all its free for one to just imagine yaaa !.

My first priority is to creat and promote "National Unity" plus "creat a sense of Pride and Patriotism in Malaysian Society".
Also creat an environment to alleviating poverty irrestive of race,,,,why/how ?,,,, by "getting rid of divisive ethnic policies and politics" and to professionally examine the root cause of Poverty.

We really need both cultural transformation and proactive government action - a change in values and policy i.e.,,,,, to promote the kind of society we all want as malaysian. to instill the values of hard work and gratification, our communal values, our sense of mutual responsibility plus social solidarity.

I strongly believe that our government has a role to play in shaping that culture for the betterment or for the worst !

All Malaysian should not feel threatened by what may be considered to be mainly a "one way process of encroachments into so called traditional economic fields",,,,, guys lets share the cake so to say or ,,,,,,,everyone might just starve together ?. Lets be a big family again and help each other.,,,,,, o.k. brother/sister dearest !!,,,,,lets be fair yaaaa ?. ,,,,we are one family-lah.

To guarantee success, all of us should be committed not to personal profit BUT to the welfare of the people first and all of us should NOT tolerate corruptions and mismanagement.

The next important agenda is to plan to be completely self sufficiency in rice instead having to import >20% of local requirement would still be imported as at the moment.
Just imagine, we Malaysian spent over RM20 billion annually on imports of food products !,,,,we must address this as a national issue or threat and as such to creat an environment of opportunity to fellow Malaysian in this potential business area !. ,,,,,lets all encourage domestic production for local consumption ,,,,,,o.k ?.

Its not at all difficult, everyone can get involved here-lah. Just start with what you have, grow your own vegetables, open a makan shop, breed your own fish/chicken/goats,,,, etc etc !!!!!.
As a leader, I will get rid of huge profits reaped by MONOPOLISTS too,,,,,,,lets be fair to the rakyat.

Its most depressing to see the UMNO Youth behaving like thugs recently in many incidents around the country !. What has happened to our Malay "sopan santun" ?. As a Malaysian, am ashamed with what is happening around the country, with regards to malaysian crazy politicking and winner take all attitude !.

Why don't all the elected politicians sit down, compromise and workout a common solution to manage the economy and welfare of the rakyat ?. That's the very reason we elected you guys for in the first place, for God's sake !.

Opposition or Ruling Parties, after all are Malaysian and should not attack each other like an enemy,,,,once after the election process, just forget about politics but work together as a common MALAYSIAN Team to manage the issues and future of the Nation.

As a leader, you have to show Moral Courage plus Moral Leadership to go beyond local politics for the Nation's good and our future generation.
There are lots of housekeeping and changes that you must put in place without fear or favour !
I have seen you growing up and being groomed for the PM role ,,,,,,in fact, had flown you around the country many times before and as such will closely monitor your progress forward too.

Help train,,,New Young Malaysian Leaders

We desperately need new young visionary leaders with charisma and credibility, otherwise, their message won't stick — no staying power. (tak boleh tahan lama)

We need bold leaders who can paint the injustices of our society in stark and glaring colours. We need smart leaders who can paint a future for our country which is leaps and bounds better than anything presently conceivable.

We need honest leaders who can passionately speak/communicate about how we can right these wrongs and reach out for that future. And this is the kind of young visionary leaders that all Malaysians need if we are to have a grassroots movement to change our country for the better.

We all have to help train/coach/mentor this kind of new young leaders, it could be from the grassroots — it will be just another Mat, Chong or Muttu, who realises "YES we CAN" and that he/she has the passion and power to communicate the nature of these wrongs and how to right them.

There are at least 27 million people in Malaysia, and is indeed a lot of Malaysians currently. The young leaders we need are out there. The answer is, ACT now, we should identify and help coach them in whatever ways we can ?. The time is now to spread the word, to reach out to everyone we know, and do our part in coaching/training the new leaders, who shall tomorrow change this country for the better.

This is not a task we can afford to just leave to the politicians or to the political parties. This is a task for every Malaysian who loves his country, who knows something is wrong with it, who knows something has to be done. If we do not find the new leaders we need, for change — and thus our country itself — we are to blame ourselves.

We've been on a downward trend since independence as far as leadership goes. ,,,,,,,It is not yet too late to redeem ourselves, and redeem the brilliance of our founding fathers.

Malaysia is still a young nation, but we cannot remain a nation for long if we do not reverse this trend and return to the basics of nation-building.

Let's not give up on finding and nurturing new leadership,,,,,,, let's challenge them to live up to and exceed their successors !.

Let's keep our ship of state afloat.,,,,!!!! and also PLEASE ask yourself,,,,,,what have you done ?.

MALAY ARCHIPELAGO' (variously called Malaysia, the Indian Archipelago, the East Indies, Indonesia, Insulinde), the largest group of islands in the world, lying south-east of Asia and north and north-west of Australia. It includes the Sunda Islands, the Moluccas, New Guinea, and the Philippine Islands, but excludes the Andaman-Nicobar group. The equator passes through the middle of the archipelago; it successively cuts Sumatra, Borneo, Celebes and Halmahera, four of the most important islands. A. R. Wallace (who includes the Solomon Islands as well as New Guinea in the group) points out that the archipelago "includes two islands larger than Great Britain; and in one of them, Borneo, the whole of the British Isles might be set down, and would be surrounded by a sea of forests. Sumatra is about equal in extent to Great Britain; Java, Luzon, and Celebes are each about the size of Ireland. Eighteen more islands are on the average as large as Jamaica; and more than a hundred are as large as the Isle of Wight." The islands of the archipelago nearly all present bold and picturesque profiles against the horizon, and at the same time the character of the scenery varies from island to island and even from district to district. The mountains are arranged for the most part in lines running either from north-west to south-east or from west to east. The Malays of the coast are a maritime people, and were long famous for the daring character of their acts of piracy. They are now peaceable fisher-folk, who show considerable Mode of ingenuity in their calling. Inland the Malays live by M o e, o preference on the banks of rivers, building houses on piles some feet from the ground, and planting groves of coco-nut, betel-nut, sugar-palm and fruit-trees around their dwellings. Behind their villages the rice-fields usually spread, and rice, which is the staple food of the people, is the principal article of agriculture among them. Sugar-cane, maize, tapioca and other similar products are grown, however, in smaller quantities. In planting rice three methods are in use: the cultivation of swamp-rice in irrigated fields; the planting of ploughed areas; and the planting of hill-rice by sowing each grain separately in holes bored for the purpose. In the irrigated fields the rice plants are first grown in nurseries, and are subsequently transplanted when they have reached a certain stage of development. The Malays also work jungle produce, of which the most important are gutta, rattans, agila wood, camphor wood, and the beautiful kamuning wood which is used by the natives for the hilts of their weapons. The principal manufactures of the Malays are cotton and silk cloths, earthenware and silver vessels, mats and native weapons. The best cotton cloths are those manufactured by the Bugis people in Celebes, and the batek cloths which come from Java and are stamped with patterns. The best silks are produced by the natives of Pahang, Kelantan and Johor in the Malay Peninsula. Lord Leighton pronounced the silver ware from Malaya to be the most artistic of any exhibited at the Colonial Exhibition held in London in 1886. The pottery of the Malays is rude but curious. When the first Europeans visited the Malay Archipelago the Malays had already acquired the art of manufacturing gunpowder and forging canon. The art of writing also appears to have been independently invented by the Malayan races, since numerous alphabets are in use among the peoples of the archipelago, although for the writing of Malay itself the Arabic character has been adopted for some hundreds of years. The Malays are excellent boat-builders.

Thanks and I will tell you the secret recipe !.

Being an Entrepreneur or better known an PirateKing the most relevant skill that helped me out is actually in the Implementation skills after having a clear and specific idea about what the GLMS product or service does and how it does it.

We should also know who is going to be interested in having this product or service when it exists. Plus with the Local Team, SIEP Central Team & IBS expertise's to translate the concept into reality. (,,,,,,i.e. pirating their knowledge base so to say !.:))

Lastly but most important, with the Shell's working environment that supports this project execution which supports innovation and product development among its employees.

But please remember, we have yet to deliver Phase 111 i.e. Material Movement Module, which should be easy once you link to and roll over what existing SAP OLM does, across to GLMS. Note; Only service that GLMS don't cater for is the material order from Vendor. GLMS starts after goods receipt at the onshore warehouse, whereby the material is packed and shipped across to the offshore location.

Presently OLM does shipping using voyages and shipments. The actual material is loaded into containers or baskets and into vessel holds. Materials can be held at onshore location, if required, and returns can be created. Returns are used to return defective goods or extra goods from offshore location to the warehouse. The Iraqi journalist arrested for throwing his shoes at US President George W Bush has written to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki apologising over the incident, Maliki's office said on Thursday.

Pirates are a fascination held by many, and why shouldn't they be? They are dangerously cool! However; many may be surprised that the romantic and adventuresome characters we have come to know and love (thank you Johnny Depp) may not be as realistic to the true history of pirates.

This fantastic "true" accounts of the robbers and murderers of the sea may be the beginning of the romantization of the pirate's life. Piracy has occurred in all stages of history. A form of piracy has been seen in the ancient Mediterranean, with the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Cartaginians. It was also a part of the Middle Ages. Vikings from the north and Moors from the south also engaged in piracy. In the Renaissance, after the European wars where naval vessels would be laid up and their crews disbanded, pirates would heavily recruit. Piracy spread to the Caribbean in the late 16th centruy during the Elizabethan wars with Spain when treasure-laden Spanish galleons proceeding from Mexico into the Caribbean were a natural target.

Piracy has made it's mark on our world over the years, and even today, continues to exist. We typically think that pirates are a fictional people, but not so. Today's pirates may appear different than the ones of years past, but they are still present. They may use different weapons or different vessels, but they are very much a threat. dear all,

i lost a couple of thousands 2 days back too,,,,my trusted staff ran off with the house money !!!!!. i am too trusting according to my wife for believing my staff to manage the cash at Kapas island. this long trusted staff that once worked for me i.e 14 years ago, came back beginning of this year for a job so i re-engaged him-lah.
last night i dream of him,,,,,,only hope that one day soon i will meet him somewhere,,,,and may god have mercy on him.
geeeeee,,,what a way to celebrate raya nowadays. indeed there are many desperate people willing to steal, cheat and rob. this guy, CICO apparently is on drugs from what i gathered from the others, which i suspected but was hoping to change him since working on the island can be very healthy. but how wrong can i be.
well,,,,,,never to trust money to others i guess,,,,,,my grandfather once told me,,,,that with money the left hand cannot trust the right hand.
guess in this case, what really matters is that my trust to someone was not honored, money we can find but trust ?

Read your blog, very interesting travel tales and life style too !. Keep up the burning spirit of life and travel all over the World as long as your health can take it. Guess presently you are happy doing the Burmese/Thai border stuff but just be careful there cas. things can just turn nasty for no good reason from what I gathered from friends that had passed there.One young lady friend of mine had just returned from Burma and she had many interesting tales to share from her exposure there. Many poor kids indeed needs assistance in education etc but unfortunately the politicians/army generals are not seeing eye to eye on such priorities !. Hopefully Malaysia will not turn its clock back after so much progress after 1957 but things are not very healthy presently with the crazy politicians playing their cards to win votes.
Guess am apolitical but as one age, one has to reflect back and at times feel sad too if the future generation has to face an up hill climb for what we could have flatten with common sense.
Right now, am still angry with myself for trusting one of my staff that had ran away with house money for the monsoon period at Kapas Island !. We worked so hard to get the place up and running, earned with our blood sweat and tears,,,,,,and this guy just pocket all the saving which was entrusted to him. How can someone be so selfish and leave the rest of my island crew high and dry ?. In fact, I have help trained not less than 50 odd staffs members at my island Longhouse since 1991 onwards,,,,,and many are very successful businessman running their small set-up. With this incident, its the 2nd time that am been disappointed. The 1st incident was in 1994 whereby one of the staff sold my outboard motor after reporting it as been stolen !. This guy was from Malacca and just release from prison plus "kena buang daerah" to Marang, since he came sadly over to the island looking for a job and a place to stay, I took him on board. After 1 year, he started to act funny with the customers plus also sold my boat engine !!!!,,,again he got away with his nonsense and till today am still looking for him.
So there are now two characters that are on my list.
Guess my style of charity is to train/mentor other to survive in this World.
In fact, I have trained not less than 48 helicopter pilots for the Royal Malaysian Air force and a few dozen more in the civilian set-up in Bristow Helicopters and Malaysian Helicopter Services after leaving the RMAF.
The last 22 years with the Oil & Gas company (Shell) have been very fruitful too and had been involved not only in the aviation business but also in numerous E&P business plus IT development projects. My previous role in Shell was as the Asia Pacific Regional Logistics Strategist & Planner and presently as Project Manager for Co-developing and Implementation of an IT Logistics tool known as GLMS (Global Logistics Management System) for the Shell Group. Actually i retired in June 2006 but the Company asked me to continue for another 2 years which ended on 30th Sept'08,,,,and has further requested for an extension !. I have agreed to stay until end of 2008 and wish to return back to my island hideaway at Kapas Island for a long deserved break from the rat race !.
I would like to build more wooden chalets around the Iban Longhouse and create a mini-Malaysia concept at my joint on the island.
Perhaps make a movie or write a journal on the island ?. After all, I have 2 guys to hunt too !!!!!!,,,,,,,its a manhunt, much more challenging than wild boar.Cheersmate,

Hello guys,

Having many friends is very healthy-lah. School friends are extra special cas. we were all too young to be sad then yaa !. As we grow old and with the children all grown up with their careers to lead, we are again left alone if lucky with the old lady or at times with the not so old lady ?. ha ha ha.
Yes, indeed please just don't give up with life and just retire or rot away with living. At our age, we are still considered prime ,,,,,matured & experienced by most standard. In fact, my present Company still wants to extend my services but I have decided to only stay back until end of this year. Next year, am either running my hideaway at Kapas island 100% or might take a new offer to manage another aviation set-up that sounds very challenging. Right now, am reviewing the various options available.
I still plan to drive across to China with my Land Rover and having put it back so many times, am worried that the 4WD might just rust away in the garage !. I have driven across the British Isle, Norway, West Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak. Still have to travel across Kalimantan with the Land Rover before leaving East Malaysia for good soon enough.
Flew across Java/Sumatra during my RMAF days. Ferry an Sikorsky S61N from Malaysia to Scotland in 1985,,,,,totalling 18 days with 28 stoppers along the way !. Flew plus qualified on 7 x different types of helicopters and a few fixed wing aircraft too !.
Also as a qualified Diver and in partnership with a Dive Centre at Kapas Island. Took up sailing as a new hobby a few years back and building up sea time presently. Power boating as skipper on my own sport cruiser at the East Coast of Malaysia. Big biking too,,,,geeee.
So guys, am pretty busy with my life style and still looking forward for new adventures in life.
Never ever give up with living my friends !!!!!!,,,,,,and make new friends along the way too.

What is a sub-prime loan?
In the US, borrowers are rated either as 'prime' - indicating that they have a good credit rating based on their track record - or as 'sub-prime', meaning their track record in repaying loans has been below par. Loans given to sub-prime borrowers, something banks would normally be reluctant to do, are categorized as sub-prime loans. Typically, it is the poor and the young who form the bulk of sub-prime borrowers.
Why loans were given?

In roughly five years leading up to 2007, many banks started giving loans to sub-prime borrowers, typically through subsidiaries. They did so because they believed that the real estate boom, which had more than doubled home prices in the US since 1997, would allow even people with dodgy credit backgrounds to repay on the loans they were taking to buy or build homes. Government also encouraged lenders to lend to sub-prime borrowers, arguing that this would help even the poor and young to buy houses.With stock markets booming and the system flush with liquidity, many big fund investors like hedge funds and mutual funds saw sub-prime loan portfolios as attractive investment opportunities. Hence, they bought such portfolios from the original lenders. This in turn meant the lenders had fresh funds to lend. The sub prime loan market thus became a fast growing segment.
What was the interest rate on sub-prime loans?
Since the risk of default on such loans was higher, the interest rate charged on sub-prime loans was typically about two percentage points higher than the interest on prime loans. This, of course, only added to the risk of sub-prime borrowers defaulting. The repayment capacity of sub-prime borrowers was in any case doubtful. The higher interest rate additionally meant substantially higher EMIs than for prime borrowers, further raising the risk of default.Further, lenders devised new instruments to reach out to more sub-prime borrowers. Being flush with funds they were willing to compromise on prudential norms. In one of the instruments they devised , they asked the borrowers to pay only the interest portion to begin with. The repayment of the principal portion was to start after two years.

How did this turn into a crisis?
The housing boom in the US started petering out in 2007. One major reason was that the boom had led to a massive increase in the supply of housing. Thus house prices started falling. This increased the default rate among subprime borrowers, many of whom were no longer able or willing to pay through their nose to buy a house that was declining in value.Since in home loans in the US, the collateral is typically the home being bought, this increased the supply of houses for sale while lowering the demand, thereby lowering prices even further and setting off a vicious cycle. That this coincided with a slowdown in the US economy only made matters worse. Estimates are that US housing prices have dropped by almost 50% from their peak in 2006 in some cases. The declining value of the collateral means that lenders are left with less than the value of their loans and hence have to book losses.
How did this become a systemic crisis?
One major reason is that the original lenders had further sold their portfolios to other players in the market. There were also complex derivatives developed based on the loan portfolios, which were also sold to other players, some of whom then sold it on further and so on.As a result, nobody is absolutely sure what the size of the losses will be when the dust ultimately settles down. Nobody is also very sure exactly who will take how much of a hit. It is also important to realize that the crisis has not affected only reckless lenders. For instance, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which owned or guaranteed more than half of the roughly $12 trillion outstanding in home mortgages in the US, were widely perceived as being more prudent than most in their lending practices. However, the housing bust meant that they too had to suffer losses — $14 billion combined in the last four quarters - because of declining prices for their collateral and increased default rates.The forced retreat of these two mortgage giants from the market, of course, only adds to every other player's woes.
What has been the impact of the crisis?
Global banks and brokerages have had to write off an estimated $512 billion in sub-prime losses so far, with the largest hits taken by Citigroup ($55.1 bn) and Merrill Lynch ($52.2 bn). A little more than half of these losses, or $260 bn, have been suffered by US-based firms, $227 billion by European firms and a relatively modest $24 bn by Asian ones. Despite efforts by the US Federal Reserve to offer some financial assistance to the beleaguered financial sector, it has led to the collapse of Bear Sterns, one of the world's largest investment banks and securities trading firm. Bear Sterns was bought out by JP Morgan Chase with some help from the Fed.The crisis has also seen Lehman Brothers - the fourth largest investment bank in the US - file for bankruptcy. Merrill Lynch has been bought out by Bank of America. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have effectively been nationalized to prevent them from going under.Reports suggest that insurance major AIG (American Insurance Group) is also under severe pressure and has asked for a $40 bn bridge loan to tide over the crisis. If AIG also collapses, that would really test the entire financial sector.
How is the rest of the world affected?
Apart from the fact that banks based in other parts of the world also suffered losses from the subprime market, there are two major ways in which the effect is felt across the globe. First, the US is the biggest borrower in the world since most countries hold their foreign exchange reserves in dollars and invest them in US securities.Thus, any crisis in the US has a direct bearing on other countries, particularly those with large reserves like Japan, China and - to a lesser extent - India. Also, since global equity markets are closely interlinked through institutional investors, any crisis affecting these investors sees a contagion effect throughout the world.,__ somehow its effect to Kapas will show as drop in tourist coming over to the island.

Young Pirates in UMNO ?

As to why UMNO must change?,,,,,firstly all executive appointments in UMNO should be based on the “merit system” and to finally mark the end of the existing “spoils system”,,,,i.e. pirates way of sharing “To the Victor go the Spoils !!!!!!”

The existing UMNO phenomenon of GROUP THINKING – Zealotry, Loyalty and Lack of Critical Thinking regarding the organization which is perfect and always correct by definition, making UMNO unable to change and realize its own mistakes.

Perhaps due to its long history, UMNO had tons of BUREAURACY in its system. If left unchecked/uncontrolled, the bureaucracy in UMNO will become increasingly self-serving and corrupt, rather than serving society at large in Malaysia.

Another issue here that must be reviewed seriously is that presently the RULING class or Alpha Malay class or Power Elite running UMNO must be scaled down to include the Common Middle Class Malays to also actively participate.

Please take note that the RULING CLASSES tend to be looked at in a negative light because they are often viewed as having little respect or care about the rights of the inferior classes.

Pirates were also depicted as always raising their Jolly Roger-flag when preparing to hijack a vessel. The Jolly roger is the traditional name for the flags of European and American pirates and a symbol for piracy that has been adopted by film-makers and toy manufacturers.
In reality, many pirates ate poorly, did not become fabulously wealthy, and died young. Unlike traditional Western societies of the time, many pirate crews operated as limited democracies.[47] Both the captain and the quartermaster were elected by the crew, they in turn appointed the other ship's officers. The captain of a pirate ship was often a fierce fighter in whom the men could place their trust, rather than a more traditional authority figure sanctioned by an elite. Hazard in BANKRUPTCY in the Insurance Industry ?

May this Kapas Pirate further educate the people on existing financial crisis facing the World i.e when the Real Estate bubble bursts, as happening right now everywhere especially in the USA. Those that borrowed to finance their real estate venture or adventures could now NOT repay their loans.

Bankruptcy now become widespread !!!!!!,,,in almost every corners of the World.

In standard market economics, if a lender makes a bad loan then righfully will have to face the consequences. Upon declared as a bankrupt or go into bankruptcy, the country's law on bankruptcy shall be applied.

What is happening now in America, the US Government is bailing out the Institutions/Companies that should rightfully declare itself into bankruptcy !. Pls note; Any creditors, anticipating an governmental bailout, would weaken its incentives to ensure that borrowers will be able to repay !.

This is an infamous moral hazard problem well known in the Insurance Industry and unfortunately now, in economics !. Its a fact that having insurance reduces the incentive to take care, to be extra prudent. A bailout in the event of a finencial crisis is like "free" insurance.

As such, if you are a lender, you take less care in screening your applicants, cas. you know you will be bailout if the loans go sour.

I pray that this message be noted by all and that our Malaysian Government shall not follow the same road !!!!!!!.

Story of my post retirement life since 2006!!!!!!! 'Stay interested in the world, take on a challenge or die early': This is Capt Shariff’s advice on ageing the best way one can. Some of you might know more about this subject than I do. A lot of it is out in the media, Internet and books. So I thought the best way would be to take a personal standpoint and tell you how I approach this question of ageing.If I cast my mind back, I can see turning points in my physical and mental health. Guess when I was young, I didn't bother too much, I assumed good health was God-given and would always be there. When I was much younger, I was really fond of drinking beer and smoking cigar, pipe etc. Often then, I would lost my voice because I'd been smoking furiously like a chimney or old train. I'd take a packet of 10 to deceive myself, but I'd run through the packet just watching the world goes by.Lately since reaching 55 plus years of age, I stopped smoking. It was atremendous deprivation because I was addicted to it. And I used to wake up dreaming...the nightmare was I resumed smoking.But I made a choice and said, if I continue this, I will not be able to survive too long. I didn't know anything about cancer of the throat or esophagus or the lungs, etc. But it turned out it had many other deleterious effects.Strangely enough after that, I became very allergic, hyper-allergic to smoking, so much so that I would plead with my friends, not to smoke in the room. You want to smoke, please go out, because I am allergic to smoke !.Then one day I was at the home of my colleague, meeting many old friends includingsome from the my old school mates and they took a picture of me and I had a big belly like that a beer belly. I felt no, no, this will not do.So I started playing more golf, hit hundreds of balls on the practice tee but this didn't go down. There was only one way it could go down: eat less, burn up more.Another turning point came when - this was from year 2000 onwards i.e. I was feeling tired easily. I was breathing deeply at the home, on the lawns. My daughter, said: 'What are you trying to do?' I said: 'I feel an effort to breathe in more oxygen.' She said: 'Don't play golf. Run. Aerobics.' So she gave me a book, quite a famous book and then, points swimming, running, whatever it is, cycling etc. I looked at it skeptically initially. I wasn't very keen onrunning. I was keen on golf. So I said, 'Let's try'. So in-between golf shots while playing on my own, sometimes nine holes at the Miri Golf Club, I would try and walk faster between shots.
Then I began to run between shots. And I felt better. After a while, I said: 'Okay, after my golf, I run.' And after a few years, I said: 'Golf takes so long. The running takes 15minutes. Let's cut out the golf and let's run or walk faster.' I think the most important thing in ageing is you got to understand yourself. And the knowledge now is all there. When I was growing up, the knowledge wasn'tthere. I had to get the knowledge from friends, from doctors.But perhaps the most important bit of knowledge that the doctor gave me was one day, when I said: 'Look, I'm feeling slower and sluggish.' So he gave me a medical encyclopedia and he turned the pages to ageing. I read it up and it was illuminating. A lot of it was difficult jargon but I just skimmed through to get the gist of it.As you grow and mature, you reach 20, 30, 40, 50 and then, thereafter, you are on a gradual slope down physically. Mentally, you carry on and on and on until you don't know what age, but mathematicians will tell you that they know their best output is when they're in their 20s and 30s when your mental energy is powerful and you haven't lost many neurons. That's what they tell me.So, as you acquire more knowledge, you then craft a program for yourself to maximize what you have. It's just common sense. I never planned to live till 80 or 90. I just didn't think about it. I said, 'Well, my mom died when she was 74, she had a stroke. My father is still alive and kicking, he is 90.'Indeed, he is living a long life, well, maybe it is his DNA and I pray/hope that I have his more than mom. But more than that, he does gardening every day and he kept himself busy. He was working in the tin mining industry. He was in charge, he was a superintendent of a tin mining Company. When he retired, he took up gardening very seriously and sweats it out everyday. My father was then living with my mother in his kampong home. And gardening kept him busy. He had that healthy routine ,,,,,,, And he keeps going.
Unfortunately since mom died 4 years back, dad had to leave his kampong home and live with his children in the city.But last year he fell, going down the steps from his room to the dining room, cracked his bones, one months incapacitated. Thereafter, he couldn't go back to his normal exercise duties. He has gradually loss his mental powers. So my calculations, I'm somewhere,,,,,,,,, and guess I've reached the halfway point now.
But have I?So at each stage, I learnt something more about myselfand I stored that. I said: 'Oh, this is now a danger point.'So all right, cut out fats, change diet, went to see a specialist in Columbia Hospital some time ago. He said: 'Take statins.' I said: 'What's that?' He said: 'it will help to reduce your cholesterol.'My doctors were concerned. So the doctors said: 'Take statins and don’t stop taking! so am on it for the past 2 years.'
So next deadline: my father's fall at 89.I'm very careful now because sometimes when I turn round too fast, I feel as if I'm going to get off balance. So my wife, an retired nursing sister, she took me to the Miri GH, there's this nerve conduction test, put electrodes here and there.The transmission of the messages between the feet and the brain has slowed down.So all the exercise, everything, effort put in, I'm fit, I swim at Kapas island, I walk at Miri Bulatan. But I can't prevent this losing of conductivity of the nerves and this transmission.So when I climb up the steps, I have no problem. When I go down the steps, I need to be sure that I've got something extra I can hang on to, just in case. So it's a constant process of adjustment. My right knee is giving me problems.But I think the most important single lesson I learnt in life was that if you isolate yourself, you're done for. The human being is a social animal - he needs stimuli, he needs to meet people, to catch up with the World.Because I still get to meet people of interest to me, while working with Shell again after my retirement in 2006. And I meet people and I get to understand what's happening in the world, what has changed etc. And that stimuli brings me to the world of today. I'm not living in the world, when I was active, more active i.e. 20, 30 years ago. So I tell my wife. She woke up late last Sunday. I said: 'Never mind, you come along by 12 o'clock. I go first. 'I'm determined that I will not, as long as I can, to be reduced, to have my horizons closed on me like that. It is the stimuli, it is the constant interaction with people that keeps me aware and alive to what's going on and what we can do to adjust to this different world.
Note; as such getting GLMS operational is my immediate tasking nowadays and it keeps me active mentally too.
In other words, you must have an interest in life. If you believe that at 55, you're retiring, you're going to read books, play golf and drink wine, then I thinkyou're done for. So statistically they will show you that all the people who retire and lead sedentary lives, the pensioners die off very quickly.So we now have a social problem with medical sciences, new procedures, new drugs, many more people are going to live long lives. If the mindset is that when Ireach retirement age 55, I'm old, I can't work anymore, I don't have to work, I just sit back, now is the time I'll enjoy life, I think you're making the biggest mistake of your life.After one month, or after two months, even if you go traveling with nothing to do, with no purpose in life, you will just degrade.The human being needs a challenge, and my advice to every person: Keep yourself interested, have a challenge.If you're not interested in the world and the world is not interested in you, the biggest punishment a man can receive is total isolation in a dungeon, black andcomplete withdrawal of all stimuli, that's real torture.If you want to see sunrise tomorrow or sunset, you must have a reason, you must have the stimuli to keep going.'
Am going back to my island and be a Pirate again very shortly ,,,,,,where I will meet many young and not so young people from all over the World.

I'm very careful now because sometimes when I turn round too fast, I feel as if I'm going to get off balance. So my wife, an retired nursing sister, she took me to the Miri GH, there's this nerve conduction test, put electrodes here and there.
The transmission of the messages between the feet and the brain has slowed down.
So all the exercise, everything, effort put in, I'm fit, I swim at Kapas island, I walk at Miri Bulatan. But I can't prevent this losing of conductivity of the nerves and this transmission.

RM20 Million $ ship wreck for waters off K.T.

Ho hoo hooooo,,,what's this plan to sink a former USS Navy Ship in the waters near Perhentian Island ?.
Why a USS Navy Ship, why not from ours ?.,,,,or just any old ship that is available locally ?. Shipwrecks are excellent structures to provide marine habitat for marine life to grow,,,but to spend 20 million $ is a big puzzle for even this old pirate chief to swallow-lah !. Must be other bigger real time pirate in K.T. working on this special project nampak-nya.
Why not just ask Mr. Bush to donate it for free since its an old unwanted ship from the US Navy.
I still don't see the logic-lah,,,having to pay 20 million $ for a ship and then sinking it,,,,geeeeeee terlampau kaya-kah kita orang Malaysia ?....or just stupid.
To those in Kuala Terengganu or in Kuala Lumpur,,,,please think real hard before this project takes off,,,or sink.
